Lloyd Ethridge ‘Buddy’ Leonard

Lloyd Ethridge “Buddy” Leonard, 93, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 28, 2020.

Buddy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946. He was a commercial fisherman throughout most of his working years. After he moved back to Shallotte, he married Marian Thorsen. They enjoyed 28 years together gardening, going on many camping trips and enjoying blue grass and mountain music.

He was born in Shallotte to William Lloyd and Pauline Leonard, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Russ Leonard; two daughters, Brenda Gail Leonard VanZorge and Patsy Ann Leonard Trijillo, both of Key West, Florida; son, Timothy Doane Leonard of Shallotte; and granddaughter, Pamela Leonard of Key West, Florida.

He is survived by his son, Ronald Elton Leonard, and his wife, Debra Roberts Leonard, of Key West, Florida; two brothers, Elroy Leonard of Shallotte and Sammie Leonard, and his wife, Betty, of Hickmans Crossroads; two sisters, Dorit Teeters, and her husband, Tom Teeters, of Boone and Shelby Rourk of Shallotte; son-in-law, David Trijillo of Key West, Florida; six grandchildren, Kimberly Vanzorge Soucy of Chicago, Illinois, Steven Patrick Leonard, and his wife, Martha Leonard, Jason Collins, and his wife, Danielle Burch Leonard, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, Christopher Kevin, and his wife, Amber Leonard, of Key West, Florida, David Lee Trijillo of New York, New York, Donald Aiden, and his wife, Nicole Trijillo, of Key West, Florida, and Timothy E. (Scooter) Leonard; 11 great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, Richard Thorsen, Angie Smith, Barbie Oxedine, Bud Thorsen and Regina Berry.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends at a later date.
