Kenneth Neil Clayton, 86, highly-decorated Army veteran

WILMINGTON — Kenneth Neil Clayton, 86, of Wallace, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2020.

During his nearly 27 years serving in the U.S. Army, Kenneth Clayton earned a National Defense Service Medal (1st OLC); Combat Medical Badge; Army Occupation Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Korea Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal (1st-6th Awards); Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation; Distinguished Unit Citation Bronze Star Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device; and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.

Kenneth Clayton was preceded in death by his father, Luther Clayton; mother, Helen Varner; and brothers and sisters.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Josephine Clayton; daughters, Patricia McCall, Dreama Tapia, and her husband, Preston, and Crystal Resh, and her husband, Christopher; son, William Clayto; and favorite niece, Reina Clayton.

There will be a visitation for Kenneth Clayton from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home, Wilmington, with a memorial service following at 1 p.m. in the Coble Ward-Smith chapel. Kenneth Clayton will be buried following the service in Kings Memorial Garden.
