WILMINGTON — The Rev. Dr. Dorothy M. Gibbs, 83, founding pastor of Speaks Temple AME Zion Church, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Willie Gibbs Jr., Sylvia El-Amin and Chandra Gibbs, all of Wilmington, Jeffery Gibbs of Jacksonville, and James R. Gibbs and Kimberly Bell, both of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at Davis Funeral Home, 901 S. 5th Ave., Wilmington. A celebration of the Rev. Gibbs’s life will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, at St. Andrews AME Zion Church, 1201 S. 9th St., Wilmington. Interment will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.
