
WILMINGTON — Gene Louis Travis, 83, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in the warm embrace of his family.
He was born Dec. 28, 1935, in Vestal, New York, the son of Louis Travis and Antonia Hauptfleisch Travis.
Gene worked for many years as a consultant in the computer industry. He served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Navy.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; sons, Michael Travis, and his wife, Julie, of Wrightsville Beach and David Travis of Wilmington; brother, Richard Travis; and grandson, Jackson Travis. Together, with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Norman; and sister-in-law, Paula Travis.
The family will gather at 11 a.m., Friday, June 21, for graveside services at the Temple of Israel Section in the New Jewish Cemetery on Princess Place, Wilmington. Rabbi Emily Losben-Ostrov will be officiating.
Gene was quite the creative writer and enjoyed writing poetry. Before his illness, in his free time, he loved to run, whether in a charitable event or just for the enjoyment of a good run.
