WILMINGTON — Elizabeth S. “Sue” Brown, 80, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Lower Cape Hospice & LifeCare Center.
Sue was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Wilmington to Jason William Avant and Dora Pickett Avant. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School and worked for Southern Bell as an operator for seven years and later worked in retail sales, including Best Products Store for 17 years. She was involved with many local beauty pageants for over 20 years and served as the director of the Teen Miss Wilmington Pageant for many years.
Sue is survived by her husband of 62 years, James R. Brown; three children, Russ Brown (Frances), Pam Caulk (Duke) and Jason Brown; two grandchildren, Megan Caulk and Cody Caulk; and two great-grandchildren, Owen Caulk and Jaxson Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Jimmy and Larry Avant.
The family will see friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 15, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, at Greenlawn Memorial Park officiated by the Rev. Doug Faulk.
