CALABASH — Mary Benes, 85, died Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
She was born March 26, 1934, in New York, New York, a daughter of the late Edward Ministeropino and Carmela Farruggio Ministeropino. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Benes.
She was a retired medical assistant and member of the Calabash VFW Ladies Auxiliary, having served as chaplain and publicity chairperson. She was also a member of the Calabash American Legion.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen Catalanotto of Calabash; sons, Thomas W. Benes of Ocean Isle Beach, Steven Benes (Denise) and James G. Benes, all of Long Island, New York; a sister, Tina Chenicek of Long Island, New York; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, Shallotte. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens of Shallotte.
