SHALLOTTE — Mattie Merlene Robinson, 79, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2018. Mrs. Robinson was born May 6, 1939, in Columbus County to the late Corbit and Ada Smith Simmons.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a feisty woman who loved her family.
Survivors include three sons, Robert McLean, and his wife, Brenda, Jimmy McLean, and his wife, Sheila, and Danny McLean; stepdaughter, Anita Smith, and her husband, Shawn; four brothers, James Oliver Simmons, James Carl Simmons, Waylon Simmons and Johnny Simmons; five sisters, Maola White, Clara Mae Norris, Rose Clewis, Martha Malpass and Wilma Cartrette; five grandchildren, Corbit McLean, Kayla McLean, Jamie Nelson, Christian McLean and Landon McLean; four step-grandchildren, Brandon Bowser, Alex Smith, Chase Smith and Chaden Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Braxton McLean, Acacia Harris and Charlotte Nelson.
Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Robinson; two brothers, James Culbert Simmons and Dave Simmons; and two sisters, Inez Fulford and Gennie Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy Martin officiating.
