Raleigh W. “Wayne” Housand, 67, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018.

He was born March 11, 1951, to R.B. and Elua Mae Housand, who preceded him in death. He married his bride Mary Ruth on April 16, 1988. Wayne was the father to three girls, Tiffany Rae, Elizabeth Joy and Esther Marie Housand. He was the dad of one son, Schuyler Dane Croom. Wayne had two sisters, Debbie Jackson, and her husband, Tim, and Lynn Housand; and one brother, Ray Housand, and his wife Betty. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Wayne grew up in the Wilmington area and graduated from NHHS in 1969. He worked at DuPont, many grocery stores and Castle Hayne Auto Parts. The last job he held was with Corning Inc.

Wayne loved music from a young age; if it had strings, he could play it, or as he’d say, “If you can hum it; I can strum it.” He was in many bands, from country music bands to his favorite, the southern gospel band, Restoration.

A celebration of life service will be held at noon, Saturday, Dec. 8, at Northside Church, 2501 North College Road. The family will have visitation one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Universal Healthcare of Brunswick, Bolivia, for the wonderful care they provided to Wayne and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice in memory of Wayne would be greatly appreciated.

Share online condolences with the family at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
