Enid Eileen Haselden Kennedy, 89, volunteered as a pink lady at NHRMC for many years

WILMINGTON — Enid Eileen Haselden Kennedy, 89, went peacefully to her heavenly home Friday, July 27, 2018, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Benjamin Peale Kennedy.

Enid was born June 5, 1929, to Rolin Verne and Grace Wyndham Haselden in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, but spent most of her childhood in Summerville, South Carolina.

She graduated from Summerville High School and Rice Business College in Charleston, South Carolina. She and Ben moved to Wilmington in 1955. She was an avid bridge player and an excellent seamstress. She also enjoyed knitting, reading and golf.

Enid was a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church for 62 years, where she volunteered in various capacities over the years. In 2016, her faithful service was recognized when she was presented an Honorary Life Membership by the Presbyterian Women (USA). She also enjoyed volunteering with the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and served as a pink lady at NHRMC for many years.

Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harland Homer Haselden and James Wyndham Haselden.

She is survived by her four children, Grace Kennedy Clark (Robert), Lucie Kennedy Anderson (Fil), Benjamin Peale Kennedy Jr. (Nancy Lees) and Lee Traynham Kennedy; three grandchildren, Meredith Anderson Miller (Gabe), William Benjamin Anderson (Katie Baker) and Lee Gibert Anderson; one great-granddaughter, Collins Claire Anderson, and she anticipated with joy a second great-granddaughter, Corrine Gray Miller, in October. She is also survived by a half-brother, Bill Haselden (Nancy).

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 31, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with a service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of The Kempton at Brightmore for their kindness, devotion and excellent care, and to Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their support in her final days.
