SUNSET BEACH — Franklin D. “Frank” Somersett, 81, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center, Whiteville.
He was born Aug. 3, 1936, in Brunswick County, the son of the late Rufus R. Somersett and Eloise Platt Somersett. He was preceded death by a son, Franklin Tony Somersett; and two daughters, Donna Denise Benton and Natalie Dianna Denley.
Mr. Somersett was a member of Old Shallotte Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Shallotte Lodge No. 727 A.F. & A.M. and Sudan Shriners, charter member and past president of South Brunswick Islands Shrine Club, member of Brunswick County Shrine Club and past captain of the Sudan Thunderbolts and New Bern Court Order of Jesters. Frank was an avid gardener and loved to eat at Highway 55.
Surviving are his wife of over 60 years, Virginia “Jane” Somersett of the home; brother, Charles Somersett, and his wife, Dianna, of Grissettown; sister, Christine Phillips and John Downer of Little River, South Carolina; many nieces and nephews with special thanks to a nephew, Gregory King of Whiteville, and niece, Peggy McCumbee of Ash; and a special pet, Tiger.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 7, at Old Shallotte Baptist Church with Rev. Rory J. Thigpen officiating. Burial will follow in the Mintz Cemetery with Masonic rites accorded by Shallotte Lodge No. 727 A.F & A.M. Friends are invited to a time of visitation with the family one hour prior to the service at the church.
