LELAND — Charles E. “Ed” Wyant, 87, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018. He had been a resident of New Hanover County for 20 years. Mr. Wyant was born Feb. 18, 1931, in White Hall, Virginia.
He received a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State and a master’s degree from Indiana University. He played baseball in college and the Army. He was an All-ACC pitcher for North Carolina State, team captain his senior year and awarded MVP as pitcher and first baseman. In later years, he loved traveling and seeking antiques. Mr. Wyant was a member of the Moose Club and Elks Lodge.
He founded a camp for underprivileged children in Raleigh and worked as the director of Parks and Recreation in Charlottesville, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by Debra Johnson, his parents and four brothers.
Mr. Wyant is survived by his children, Stephen Wyant, Rebecca Scoggins and Alan Seawell.
