SOUTHPORT — David Israel Sepsenwol, 78, died Thursday, May 24, 2018, after a long battle with the complications of diabetes. He was born Nov. 6, 1939, in Lorain, Ohio, the oldest of four children of Ruth and Isadore Sepsenwol.

David earned a B.S. degree in education from Antioch College and a Master’s Degree in Adult Education from Washington University and taught his first years at The Walden School in NYC. He was a gifted and inspiring teacher of young children. While in New York, he became “sidetracked” into business, where he developed a successful career, first in human resources, then in large-scale management reorganization, working for several large corporations.

He ultimately became a partner in Vector Strategic Management in NYC, a management consulting firm. His career took him and his family to California, Florida, London, Philadelphia, Toronto and Manhattan, the last where he lived most of his life.

After retirement, he and his wife, Susan, moved to Southport NC. He was the loving father of two sons, Jonathan and Benjamin and step-daughter, Susan Light. He loved sailing and the ocean. David was an avid collector, disseminator of books and music and an extraordinary chef. Their many friends and family will remember the elegant, sumptuous meals and seders he created and catered. He was often urged to open his own restaurant, but his response was always the same, “I only cook for the people that I love.”

He is survived by his wife, Susan Maynard; sons, Jonathan (Karen) of Miami Beach and Benjamin of Shanghai; stepdaughter, Susan Light of NYC; sister, Leah (Terri) of Missouri; brothers, Noah of Washington, D.C., and Sol of Wisconsin; two granddaughters, Molly and Zoe; and step-granddaughter, Ella.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 25, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.
