What to do in Wilmington on what is expected to be a rainy Memorial Day Weekend

The National Weather Service is predicting a heavy chance of rain on Saturday, Sunday and Monday

WILMINGTON—This Memorial Day Weekend is expected to be a wet one in Wilmington and surrounding area beaches, but don’t worry, there are plenty of things to do in Wilmington when it rains. Port City Daily has a list of five things to do instead if outdoor plans get canceled.

Battleship North Carolina

The Battleship North Carolina is located across the Cape Fear River from Downtown Wilmington and offers guests self-guided tours. Admission is $14 for visitors ages 12 and older, $10 for visitors age 65 or older, $6 for children ages 6-11 and free for children 5 or younger. Tickets and information can be found online.

 

Cape Fear Museum

The Cape Fear Museum is located at 814 Market St. and offers a variety of exhibits for guests to experience from the Cape Fear Region. Tickets can be purchased online or in person and the cost for non-members is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, college students, and military, $5 for youth ages 6-17, and free for children 5-years-old and younger.

 

The Children’s Museum of Wilmington

The Children’s Museum of Wilmington is located at 116 Orange St. in Downtown Wilmington. Hours of operation can be found online, and tickets are $9.75 for adults and children, $8.75 for military and seniors and children under 12 months are given free access.

 

Fort Fisher Aquarium

Open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located in Kure Beach at 900 Loggerhead Road. Ticket prices starting Saturday are $12.95 for adults, $11.95 for seniors aged 62 or older and military, Children ages 3-12 $10.95, and children 2-years-old or younger are free.

Orange Street ArtsFest

The 23rd annual Orange Street ArtsFest will run rain or shine. From Front Street to 3rd Street in downtown Wilmington, vendors will be set up outdoors on May 26 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on May 25 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Children’s Museum of Wilmington, Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra and Thalian Association’s Youth Theatre Program have planned performances throughout the weekend-long ArtsFest at the Hannah Block Community Arts Center.
