SUNSET BEACH — Thomas Vincent “Tommy” McClure III, 70, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 5, 1947, in Yonkers, New York, the son of the late, Thomas Vincent McClure Jr. and Mary Lou Williams McClure. He was preceded in death his grandson, Joseph McClure Acera; and loving dog, Briggsley Wizzwell Hampton.
Tommy was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed with Verizon for 33 years until his retirement. He was a member of the CWA and Telephone Pioneers of America.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Barbara E. McClure; three daughters, Kimberly Ann Atkins, and her husband, Tim, of Satsuma, Florida, Janel Murray, and her husband, Frank, of Apex, North Carolina, and Erica Acera, and her husband, Leonardo, of Winnabow, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Collin Thomas Murray, Leonardo Thomas Acera, Chloe Rose Murray, Elise Murray and Brandon Dix; sister, Gayle Beller of Summit, New York; two brothers, Gerald McClure of Newburgh, New York, and Patrick McClure of Norwalk, Conn.; sister-in-law, Johanna Tepperwien, and her husband, Jim, of Carmel, New York; three brother-in-laws, Thomas J. Eufemia of New York, New York, Michael A. Eufemia of Southwick, Massachusetts, and Steven G. Eufemia of Poughkeepsie, New York.
There will be a gathering family and friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, May 3, at White Funeral and Cremation Service, Shallotte Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, May 4, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422; or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
