WILMINGTON — Barbara Hines Nail, 60, beloved wife, mother and teacher, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, March 23, 2018, while surrounded by those who loved her.
Barbara was born Sept. 4, 1957, in Richmond, Va., to Thomas S. Hines and Martha E. Hines. Barbara grew up in Carolina Beach, N.C., and graduated from UNCW.
Barbara’s calling in life was to teach. She taught and influenced countless children in the Wilmington area for 36 years. She committed the first 30 years of her career working for New Hanover County schools at Winter Park Elementary School and Holly Tree Elementary School. She spent the last six years at Myrtle Grove Christian School, where she could combine her passion for teaching with her love of Christ.
Outside of her profession, Barbara also spent her time teaching vacation Bible school and Sunday school at Long Leaf Baptist Church. No matter what she was teaching, Barbara taught with her heart and inspired so many and served as a shining example for anyone that she met.
Barbara always surrounded herself with those that she loved. She could bring light to any situation, not only with the care and soft-heartedness that she had for every person, but also with her smile and quirky sense of humor. Because of her strength, courage and unwavering compassion, Barbara was and will continue to serve as an inspiration to those who were blessed to have known her.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Alton “Al”; sons, Aaron and Timothy “Tim,” and his wife, Raschelle; brother, Tom, and his wife, Libba; sister-in-law, Laura; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 29, at Long Leaf Baptist Church, 317 Shipyard Blvd. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow the service in Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Myrtle Grove Christian School, 806 Piner Road or Long Leaf Baptist Church.
