WILMINGTON — Abraham Morris ‘Abe’ Levine, 74, son of the late Abraham Morris Levine and Margaret Ann Henry, was born April 16, 1943, in Washington, D.C. He entered peaceful rest Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Brunswick Cove Nursing Center, Winnabow.
Abe, as he was often called, grew up in Kelly, N.C. Abraham accepted Christ at a young age and renewed his faith recently. He was married to Jettie Bowen Levine and to this union three children were born. He moved to Wilmington, N.C., where he met Minnie Hayes. He worked as a longshoreman for 30 years until he retired. He was a kindhearted person who did not mind helping his family. Anyone who called on him for help, he would be there if he could. He often did welding jobs for people around town while working his full-time job. He had an infectious smile and a funny sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three daughters, Kim Bonita Levine, Melinda Bowen and Gerald Murphy; one son, Eugene Hayes; one grandson, Daniel Terrell Roberson; and three sisters, Easter Patrick, Merry Christmas Black and Rebecca Black.
He leaves to cherish his memories four sons, Abraham Morris Levine Jr. (Cynthia) of Raleigh, N.C., Michael Hayes (Rhoda) of Wilmington, N.C., Reginald Hayes (Denise) of Wilmington N.C., and Bob Hayes (Dianne) of Wilmington, N.C.; three daughters, Debbie Bowen Lynch (Ronnie) of Riegelwood, N.C., Jacqueline Hayes of Raleigh, N.C., and Janice Harris of Wilmington, N.C.; five sisters, Lottie Henry of Woodbridge, Va., Ruby Anderson of Chicago, Ill., Nettie Miller (Andrew) of Columbia, S.C., Mary Corbett (Norris) of Leland, N.C., and Aletha Black (Nick), of Clarkton, N.C.; three brothers, David Black (Pearl) of Watha, N.C., William Levine of Wilmington, N.C., and George Levine of Homestead, Fla.; and 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, at Davis Funeral Home, 901 South 5th. Ave., Wilmington.
