Jack Russell Brewster, 82, cherished his role of husband and father

WILMINGTON — Jack Russell Brewster, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at his home.

He was born May 11, 1935 in Modesto, Calif., the son of the late Fred Brewster and Frankie Andrews Brewster and was preceded in death by his half-brother, Raymond Goddard.

Growing up, Jack and Rita were neighbors since the ages of 10 and 8. They were true soul mates. They had 61 years of blessed marriage.

Jack always put Rita first, he was very much a family man and couldn’t do enough for his family.

Surviving is his wife, Rita Ann Brewster of Wilmington; daughter, Marianne Corr, and her husband, Howard, of Long Island, N.Y.; sons, Robert James Brewster, and his wife, Dorene, of Long Island, N.Y., and James Raymond Brewster of Wilmington; brother, Fred Brewster; half-sisters, Janet Krauss and Judy License; half-brothers, Harry Goddard and Arthur Goddard; grandchildren, Thomas Corr, and his wife, Jessica Thron, Katelyn Ruggerio, and her husband, Matthew, Nicole Brewster and Robert Brewster; three great-grandchildren.

Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He retired from the City of New York as a stationary engineer and was member of the Elks, Cape Golf Course, Masonboro Country Club and Beau Rivage Country Club. Jack loved golfing, camping, fishing and boating.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
