Jeffrey Claude “Jeff” Peoples, 54, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at his home.
Jeff was born Dec. 9, 1963, in Winston-Salem, N.C. Growing up, he attended Immanuel Moravian Church, and he played in the Moravian Band for 44 Easter sunrise services.
A graduate of Appalachian State University, Jeff’s early career was as production manager of newpapers, and he met his wife Gretchen while at the Monroe Enquirer-Journal. An avid fisherman and hunter, in the early 1990’s, they moved to Southport to pursue his true passion for fishing. Jeff had a 100 ton master’s license and ran fishing charters for 25 years, most of the time on his boat, the Jaybird. Those were long exhausting days, but he loved every minute of it.
Most recently, he was a real estate broker at RE/MAX at the Beach on Oak Island. Above all, Jeff’s devotion to family, friends and faith came first.
He is survived by Gretchen Peoples, his wife of 23 years; beloved daughter, Caroline Foster Peoples; father, James “Jim” Sapp, and his wife, Linda; two brothers, James “Wink” Sapp and Jonathan Sapp; nephew, Hunter Gray Sapp; aunts, Vicki Lowery and Sherri Bates; and father-in-law, Bob Hock, among other dear family members.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Glenda Foster Sapp; and grandparents, Bill Foster and Erma Foster.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 18, at Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Walter Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1503 E. Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC 28465; or to Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church, 3680 Old Lexington Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
