Charles Linwood Whitehurst, 51, information technology specialist known as “the gadget guy”

WILMINGTON — Charles Linwood Whitehurst, 51, passed away in his sleep Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at his home.

Charles was born Sept. 20, 1966, to William Lawrence Whitehurst and Carolyn Long Whitehurst in Bethel, N.C.

He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Long Whitehurst; wife, Vera Whitehurst; brother, William Whitehurst II; sons, Steven Whitehurst, and his wife, Jennifer Ahouse Whitehurst, and Charles J. Whitehurst; stepchildren, Carrie Mills and Timothy Mills; and four grandchildren, Madison, Savannah, Elijah and Cameron; along with countless other family members, friends and coworkers who loved him dearly.

Charles worked in information technology for Corning Inc., New Hanover County DSS and NHRMC. He was known as “the gadget guy” and for his quirky sense of humor. Everyone could count on him to fix their computer problem and leave them with a good laugh.

One of his greatest joys in his life was spending time with his grandchildren.
