Gwendolyn Avery ‘Gwen’ Todd, 91, enjoyed her days fishing in the waters of Topsail Island

WILMINGTON — Gwendolyn Avery “Gwen” Todd, 91, went to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Todd was born Jan. 14, 1927, in Wilmington and was the daughter of the late E.L. and Annie Avery.

She was preceded in her death by her husband, William Raleigh Todd Jr.; brother, Harry Avery; and sister, Florence Avery Boylan.

She is survived by her four loving children, Patricia Davis, and her husband, Jim, the Rev. William Raleigh Todd III, and his wife, Jane, Dennis Todd, and his wife, Lisa, and Kathy Basey, and her husband, Chuck; and grandchildren, Amy Todd-Paine, and her husband, David, Dr. Christa Todd, the Rev. Joey Todd, and his wife, Tonya, and Philip Todd, and his wife, Abigail. Gwen’s legacy continues with seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gwen was a loving and caring friend to so many in the Wilmington community. She was proud to be the first local employee hired for General Electric when the plant was established in Wilmington, N.C. Gwen worked as an executive assistant for General Electric and WECT. She was a dedicated member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church and was thoroughly involved in missions. Gwen also served as a leader with Bible Study Fellowship for many years. Being outside among the azaleas and fishing in the waters off Topsail Island were two of her many passions.

Friends are invited to a time of visitation with the family from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market St., Wilmington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 2, at Wrightsboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Lewis and the Rev. Joey Todd officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wrightsboro Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
