David O. Moore Sr., 80, successful business owner

LELAND — David O. Moore Sr., 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 29, 1937, in Washington, D.C., the son of Sidney Bain Moore and Daisy L. Jenkins Moore Iezzi, both deceased. Also deceased are his stepfather, Q.A. Iezzi; former wife, Shirley Gaines; son, David O. Moore Jr.; daughter, Deborah A. Willis; and stepson, Dennis W. Craig.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jane H. Moore; and sons, Gerald D. Moore of Florida and Keith R. Moore of St. Leonard, Md.

David lived in Leland from 1943 to 1954 when he moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for the District of Columbia, Department of General Services and the Department of Corrections as a locksmith for 22 ½ years prior to his retirement on disability.

He owned several businesses before and after he retired, A-1 Door Closer, Dunkirk Lock Service in Dunkirk, Md.; and once he returned to Leland in 1982, he started Door Hardware Services, but gave up his business in order to travel in his various recreational vehicles. He also enjoyed boating in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and the ocean here in North Carolina.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26, at Village Road Chapel.
