WILMINGTON — Ronald G. “Scooter” Hobbs, 87, passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living in Wilmington.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mills Hobbs; daughters, Catherine Hewett Moore of Wrightsville Beach and Bonita “Bonnie” Coley of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Megan and Jim Coley, Jason Moore, Sarah Whitaker and Alex Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and first wife, Ava Hobbs, who passed away in 1990.
Scooter was a native and lifelong resident of Wilmington. He had a long career with Swift Foods, which he retired from in the 1990’s. He then worked part-time for several years at the Cape Fear Country Club.
He was a Mason in the Wilmington Lodge 319, A.F.& A.M., and a Shriner who enjoyed working with the Shriners Choo Choo trainmen team and regularly assisted with other Shrine Club charitable activities. He and his wife Dorothy supported and frequently visited the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, N.C. He was a gentle man who was loved and admired by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20, in Oakdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, or the Shriners Hospital for Children, would be appreciated.
