LELAND — Elaine Susan “Susie” Staebell, 62, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Neal and June Kilian.
She is survived by her son, Alex James Staebell of Leland, N.C.; daughter, Katie (Charles) Lowry of Raleigh, N.C.; brothers, Leslie (Yvonne) Kilian of Canandaigua, N.Y., and Larry (Carol) Kilian of Blasdell, N.Y.; significant other, Don Ruttan, and his family; and loving nieces, nephews and many friends. Sue also leaves behind an extended family who is very heartbroken at her passing. She was more than just family, she was a friend. She will be missed dearly by Harold and Ina Ruttan, Jennie and James Shurtzer, Elizabeth Perez, and Renee Gopar and their children and great-grandchildren.
Sue was an incredibly loving and kind person. She loved people and never hesitated to make friends wherever she went. She was a wonderful baker and cook who previously co-owned and operated the Maco Truck Stop in Leland, N.C., and also continued on to work in food service. She loved to sit at her kitchen table and complete crossword puzzles while her dog, Gracie, laid on her feet. Her love of music included playing the guitar and trumpet, and her children fondly remember her singing while playing for them while they were young.
She was dearly loved by all who knew her, and she will forever remain in our hearts. We cherish our time with her.
A service of celebration and remembrance will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Village Road Chapel.
