WILMINGTON — Jean Lily Anderson Stuber, 89, passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center surrounded by her children and the loving care of Hospice.

Jean was born May 15, 1928, in Camden, N.J., daughter of the late Richard and Lily Haynes Stuber. Her daughter, Beattie Anderson McKee, and grandson, Ryan N. McKee, preceded her in death.

Jean was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother until Alzheimer’s slowly took her memory away. She was an avid gardener, and loved to quilt and sew. Always involved in volunteer organizations, she loved to help others. She made “Pinkie Puppets” for sick children through the New Hanover Hospital’s Women’s Auxiliary.

Jean was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served on the altar guild and St. Agnes Guild, assisted with fundraisers and served the church in any way she could. An avid quilter, Jean donated many quilts for fundraisers and was known for her apple pies.

She is survived by three children, Marilyn Anderson Hinnant (Richard) of Natural Bridge, Va., V. Scott Anderson (Val) of Wilmington, N.C., and Richard B. Anderson (Carol) of Carolina Beach, N.C.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, Dec. 1, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. Following the visitation, a funeral service will follow visitation at 12:15 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, which is located next door to the funeral home. The Rev. Dena Whalen will be officiating services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
