Christine Virginia Romano, 92, owned and operated Sherwood Manor Rest Home

WILMINGTON — Christine Virginia Romano, 92, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at Sherwood Manor.

Christine was born April 20, 1925, in New York City, N.Y., daughter of the late Eugene Ravone and Virginia Orefice Ravone. Her husband, Vincent Romano, and her two brothers preceded her in death.

She was the owner and operator of Sherwood Manor Rest Home. She was given the love and care from her daughters and the dedicated, longtime staff, as she had given to so many since 1984.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, being active in the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Mary’s Guild and worked alongside Sister Isaac to start up Mother Hubbard Cupboard. She was also past president of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club and the VFW Post 2573 Ladies Auxiliary, also being a Gold Star Mother.

She is survived by two daughters, Chris Hughes (David) and Angela Romano; son, Eugene Powell; and two granddaughters, Tina Hughes and Toni Hughes, all of Wilmington.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 30, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Christine’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
