Vonnie R. ‘Mac’ McAnalley

HAMPSTEAD — Vonnie R. “Mac” McAnalley, 82, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, in Hampstead, N.C. He was born Aug. 28, 1935, Portageville, Mo.

Mac had retired as an E8 Army sergeant and received five Bronze Service Stars to Vietnam Service Medals, the Fire Oak Leaf Cluster to Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Vietnamese Civil Actions Medal w/Palm for his service helping the civil police in Southern Vietnam. He was a sharpshooter and marksman.

After retirement from the military, he enjoyed spending time fishing, playing with his dog, Tiger, and watching the Detroit Tigers baseball team.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia McAnalley.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Adams and Patty Davis of Wilmington, Carol Ellington of Carolina Beach and Judy Gregg of Winston Salem, N.C.; four stepchildren, Tammy Rinehart of Stover Mo., Robert Lanning, La., Terry Lanning of Holland, Ohio, and Tia Lanning of Temperance Mich.; sister, Patricia Anderson, Naples, Fla.; as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, at Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel on Willow Woods Drive, just off of Oleander Drive.
