Mary Stokley Smith, 81, always available with a listening ear

WHITEVILLE — Mary Stokley Smith, 81, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at her home in Columbus County following a valiant battle with cancer.

Born Aug. 20, 1936, in Columbus County, N.C., she was a daughter of John W. Stokley and Lessie L. Simmons Stokley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack David Larkins; second husband, C.L. Smith; and son, John D. Larkins.

She is survived by her son, Aaron L. Larkins, and his wife, Gina; four grandchildren, David Larkins, Aaron Larkins Jr., Leigha Danielle Larkins and John Christian Larkins; and brothers, Earl Junior Stokley, and his wife, Mary, Woody Stokley, and his wife, Aggie, J.D. Reeves and Marvin Reeves.

Mary is remembered as a selfless, loving and kind woman who was always there to listen.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, at Andrews Market Street. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
