Charles Ray Lee, 72, retired from New Hanover County

Charles Ray Lee

WILMINGTON — Charles Ray Lee, 72, passed from his earthly life Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 18, 1945, in Johnston County, the son of the late Jesse W. Lee and Alice Louise Lee.

Charles leaves his beloved family to cherish his memory; his wife of 50 years, Diane “Jane” Lee; sons, Kenneth Ray Lee (Tara) and Christopher Allen Lee (Tami); grandchildren, Jessica Lee (Patrick), Benjamin Lee and Samuel Lee; brothers, George Lee (Dianne), Johnny Lee, Richard Lee and Donnie Lee (Sallie); sister, Patsy Reece (Glenn); step-mother-in-law, Amelia Mullinax; and many extended family members and friends.

He attended Pine Valley Church of God and was a former member of Burgaw Holiness Church. Charles had retired from New Hanover County in the Plumbing Inspection Department.

Charles was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. As a Christian, Charles best portrayed his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in his service to others and faithful witness. Charles loved being outdoors, especially on the lake. He enjoyed traveling and seeing the beauty of God’s creations. When at home, Charles loved to piddle about and work in the garden. His sudden loss is deeply felt by his family and loved ones. However, we take solace in the act that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, at Pine Valley Church of God, 3810 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington. Pastor Larry Horrell, Pastor Ted Mercer and Pastor Gary Leviner will conduct the service. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
