Rami Crawford Chilton, 29, enthusiastic basketball player and fan

Rami Crawford Chilton

WILMINGTON — On Nov. 2, 1987, a precious baby boy was born in Fayetteville, N.C., to proud parents Becky McAdams Setliff and Dr. Rudy Garland Chilton. On Aug. 30, 2017, Rami Crawford Chilton, 29, passed away at New Hanover Hospital after a valiant battle with chronic kidney disease.

Rami grew up in Wilmington. He loved sports, but his real passion was basketball—playing and watching! He enjoyed creating his own rap music, spending many days in recording studios. He earned his GED in 2013 and was an HVAC technician for eight years.

In 2016, Rami was diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy of both kidneys. His kidneys failed completely in February 2017 requiring ongoing dialysis. He tried his best to accept, manage and treat this disease, but often said he felt he was existing instead of living. He showed much courage during multiple hospitalizations, surgeries and treatments.

He leaves behind his mom and stepdad, Becky and Harold Setliff; dad and brother, Rudy and Austin Chilton; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, retired Col. Michael and Sandra McAdams, “Bud” and “Boo,” and Virginia Chilton, “Nina.”

A special thank you to the outstanding staff at DaVita Cape Fear Dialysis for their compassionate care given to Rami.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Andrews Market Street Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rami Chilton’s name to American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
