Marion Barbour McKeithan, 96, attributed her longevity to the children she cared for

Marion Barbour McKeithan

WILMINGTON — Marion Barbour McKeithan, 96, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017. She was born in Four Oaks, N.C., the daughter of the late Carroll Arthur Barbour and Eva Mae Spain Barbour.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Leon W. McKeithan; daughters, LaRue McKeithan, Amelia McKeithan and Margaret Costin; and three sisters and one brother. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Keiffen,” as she was lovingly known, attributed her longevity to the children she cared for in her home for many years.

She was a faithful member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church for over 45 years. She was known to invite everyone she met to the church she loved so much.

Surviving are her children, Janet Reinecke (John) of Charlotte, N.C., Elaine Jones (Tom) of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Renee Philpott (Joseph) of Castle Hayne, N.C., and the Rev. Payton McKeithan (Julie) of Costa Rica; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of New Hanover House for their constant love and care.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at Wrightsboro Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. officiated by U.S. Air Force Chaplain Maj. Gen. Dondi E. Costin and the Rev. Mike Lewis. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, Bolivia.

Memorials may be made to Wrightsboro Baptist Church, 2736 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington, NC 28401; or McKeithan’s Costa Rica Mission, Attn. Susan Moore, Life Community Church, P.O. Box 3489, Wilmington, NC 28406.
