Lindsey Alton “Big Daddy” Mathis, 50, went home to be with our Lord Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, following a tragic accident.
He was preceded in death by his son, Lindsey “Aaron” Mathis; father, Leamon A. Mathis; and two brothers, Arnold and Gilbert Mathis.
He is survived by his daughter, Bailey Gates (Jonathan Edwards); three grandchildren, Grayson Gates, Eliot and Evelyn Edwards of Morehead City; mother, Faye Decatur (Dave) of Hampstead; brother, Milton Mathis of Morehead City; two sisters, Sherry Rivenbark (Russell) of Hampstead and Mariea Atkinson (Danny) of Wilmington; and many extended family members.
Lindsey touched so many lives with his infectious smile and heart of gold. When he wasn’t working as a registered nurse, he could be found spreading joy with his passion for music as a deejay. He was always the life of the party and loved nothing more than to entertain a crowd with his phenomenal singing voice and vivacious sense of humor.
Lindsey lived every day to its fullest and truly was a legend in his own time. He was a loving father, grandfather, and a wonderful son, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18, at Andrews Mortuary, Hampstead. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, at Scott’s Hill Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Harbor United Methodist Church Building Fund, Surf City.
