Michael Christopher Auvil, 36, employed with Turtle Island Restaurant

OAK ISLAND — Michael Christopher Auvil, 36, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017.

Michael was born April 27, 1981, in Uniontown, Penn. He graduated from Northern High School in Accident, Md., and attended Garrett College and Allegany College, where he studied culinary arts.

Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard who loved the beach, hunting, fishing, golfing and cooking. Michael was working at Turtle Island Restaurant and had dreamed of owning his own restaurant one day. Michael is gone too soon and will be missed by his many loving friends and family.

Survivors include his mother, Vicki, and stepfather, James Meyers, of Oak Island; sister, Wendy, and her husband, Rick McKenzie, of LaVale, Md., with niece, Jacqie, and nephews, Ricky, Josh, Christopher, Stephen and Chase McKenzie; stepbrother, Michael, and his wife, Stacey Meyers, of Meyersdale, Pa., with his nephews, Kent, Jason and Travis Meyers; and father, John Auvil of Florida.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home, Southport. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 27, at the funeral home. A reception will follow services at 1 p.m. at Turtle Island Restaurant.
