WILMINGTON — Robert Charles Jones, 85, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Trinity Grove surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Frank W. Jones and Anne Morton Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Gray Jones; brother, James Jones; and a bonus son, Alex Lewis.
Robert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from General Electric after a 35-year career. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Pine Valley Country Club for many years and Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mel Foy Jones; two children, Cindy Love and David Jones (Beth); and three bonus children, Vince Lewis (Susan), Leslie Lewis and Ginny Ives (Chad); nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Frank W. Jones; sisters, Mary Alice Earls and Edna Evelyn Cutter; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Penny.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 30, at Temple Baptist Church, 1801 Market St., Wilmington, with Dr. Mark E. Gaskins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to services at the church. Interment with military honors will follow in Oleander Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Stephen Lewis, Robert Love, Taylor Jones, Ethan Love, Hunter Jones, David Love and Ben Ives.
