Patrick Shawn Hudson, 52, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at Cypress Pointe Rehab & Health Care Center after spending a great morning visiting with family and friends on Sunday, April 10, 2016.
He was born in Wilmington and attended John T. Hoggard High, University of North Carolina Wilmington as well as Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. He served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army Band.
After college, he worked many years in the hardware industry, including Hudson Hardware and Stewart’s Hardware in Southport. At the time of his declining health, he was employed with the Wilmington Cape Fear Pilots Association as a maritime navigation dispatcher.
His passions in life were playing his saxophone as well as playing cribbage, from games around the kitchen table, to serious tournaments in Reno, Nev. His love of music allowed him to play numerous gigs with very talented musicians, leading to lifetime friendships. Shawn was always happiest with his sax in his hands.
Shawn was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Hudson; mother Margaret ‘Dee’ Hopseker; and stepfather, Elwood ‘Hoppy’ Hopseker.
He is survived by his brother, Jay Hudson (Betty); aunt, Cindy Everett Meyers (Greg); nieces, Jennifer Goodman and Ashley Mears; great-niece and great-nephew, Jayla and Alex Hudson; and a special canine friend, Sophie, whose visits made his day extra special.
During Shawn’s illness, he faced adversity with courage, strength and yes, even humor. His family and friends would like to thank the many great caregivers, including the staff of Cypress Pointe, Devita Dialysis Center, Dr. Matt Janik and Charles Neuwirth and staff, especially Tara.
Shawn had many friends who stayed in touch and lifted his spirits during his illness. Please know he loved and appreciated all of you.
