Christopher Vlahos, of Leland, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, at the age of 88.
Christopher was born in Manhasset, New York, son of the late Angelo and Sophie Vlahos. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Pope and a brother, John Vlahos.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sib Vlahos; children, Michelle Webb, Air Force retired Colonel Mark Vlahos (Julie), Army retired Lieutenant Colonel Kristen Schafer (Kerry) and Gregory Vlahos (Sandy); stepdaughters, Sherry Herman (David) and Rayliene Stanfield; sisters, Mary Cornwall and JoAnn Siletti (Peter); nine grandchildren; special friends, John Morton and Robert Winston; St. Paul’s Episcopal Church family; and his beloved dogs, Koko, Petunia and Morgan.
Christopher was a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. He served as a chief engineer on Soncino Mobile. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and retired at the rank of lieutenant. He then entered his career as a mechanical engineer at Nabisco and retired after 35 years of service.
A reception will be held at noon Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service.
