William ‘Pop’ Vaughn, 83, Korean War veteran who raised sons in love-filled home

William “Pop” Vaughn, of Castle Hayne, died Feb. 16, 2015, at the age of 83.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1931, to Herbert and Marie Vaughn in Carbondale, Illinois. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

A Korean War veteran, William, known as “Bill,” was proud to serve his country. He married Grace Elizabeth “Libby” Cottle and in 1956 they made their life together in Castle Hayne for the next 59 years. Bill and Libby raised their two sons, Billy Vaughn and Ray Brown, in a home filled with love.

Survivors include son, Billy (Judy) and son, Ray; granddaughters, Amber Vaughn and Amanda Brinson; grandson, Billy Dean Vaughn II; two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Grant Brinson; and two best friends, Linda and Johnny Moore.

The family would like to thank all of their friends for their continuous support and prayers.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at the funeral home’s chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington.
