Charles Eugene ‘Gene’ Glisson, 68, former drummer for country singer Charley Pride

Charles Eugene “Gene” Glisson, of Supply, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at his residence. He was 68.

He was born on June 26, 1946, in Loris, the son of Vivian Glisson, of Shallotte and the late Rev. Charles R. Glisson and was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Hodge.

Gene was affiliated with New Life Christian Fellowship in Supply. His love was music and he followed his dreams as a drummer for country singer Charley Pride for many years and played at numerous churches with Brent Tyndall. He worked with Pelican Lumber Company, Lowe’s Home Improvement and J.M. Parker and Sons for several years. He was known as a “tinker,” working on small engines, and loved to play golf.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Ruby R. Glisson, of the home; a son, Adam Lee Glisson, of Shallotte; three stepchildren, Michael Fowler and wife, Amanda, Brandon Fowler and wife, Katie and Shannon Fowler, all of Supply; one brother, Joseph “Joey” Glisson and wife, Julie, of Boiling Spring Lakes; a sister, Dianne Gainey, of Wilmington; and six grandchildren, Moriah Fowler, Hannah Fowler, Olivia Fowler, Lilly Fowler, Sophia Fowler and Emma Fowler.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at New Life Christian Fellowship Church with a service to follow at noon officiated by Pastor Bobby Norton. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
