Dorothy Rose Piper, of Oak Island, died Tuesday Jan. 20, 2015, at Brunswick Cove Living Center. She was 97.
She was born on June 14, 1917, in Shadyside, Ohio, the daughter of the late Albert and Lulu Rankin. She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Piper; three brothers; one sister; and a grandson, Paul Gould.
Mrs. Piper was lovingly known as “Grandma” to many people in the area. She loved to cook and make people happy with her cookies and never used a recipe. She and her husband were founding members of the Oak Island Senior Center and were involved with many activities in Yaupon Beach.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Z. Donahue and husband, of Oak Island; son, William P. Piper and wife, of Florida; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Peacock Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel officiated by Pastor Rick Russell. Interment will follow at Northwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
