Geraldine Crandall, 85, known for warm personality, sense of style

Geraldine Crandall, of Hampstead, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at home. She was 85.

She was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, daughter of the late Charles A. Kirk and Winifred M. O’Connor Kirk. Her husband, Richard F. Crandall (July 1991) and two brothers, Alfred and Charles Jr, preceded her in death.

Geraldine relocated from New York in 1990 to Hampstead with her husband. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend and was happiest when spending time with her family and her grandchildren. Geraldine was known for her warm personality and her sense of style.

She was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church in Hampstead. Geraldine worked for New Jersey Bell Phone Company from 1947 to 1955 and from 1963 to 1964. She was vice president of Richard Crandall Associates, Inc. (Advertising Agency) Katonah, New York and Danbury, Connecticut from 1975 to 1990.

After retirement from Richard Crandall Associates, Inc., she spent time working for the Topsail Voice newspaper in Hampstead and Topsail Island Trading Company in Surf City. She also served on the Board of the Hampstead Public Library and volunteered for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Pender County.

Surviving are her brother, Robert Kirk, of Tinton Falls, New Jerseh; two children, Kathleen “Casey” Crandall, of Sag Harbor, New York and Carolyn Christ and husband, William J. Christ, of Hampstead; three grandchildren, Catherine Christ, of Hampstead, Olivia Packes, of Stamford, Connecticut and William C. Christ, of Hampstead; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at All Saints Catholic Church, 18737 US Hwy 17 N., Hampstead, NC 28443.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Geraldine’s memory may be made to All Saints Catholic Church Building Fund, 18737 Hwy 17 N, Hampstead, NC 28443, or to Pender Adult Services, 901 S. Walker Street, Burgaw, NC 28425.
