
Johanna Amelia Hooker, 89, of Ocean Isle Beach, died Sunday, December 14, 2014.
Mrs. Hooker was born on February 9, 1925 in Staten Island, NY, a daughter of the late John and Mary DiVencenzi Mazza.
She was an alumnus of New Dorp High School and a parishioner of St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church. Prior to moving to Ocean Isle Beach, she retired from Doctor’s Hospital, Staten Island, as a secretary to the Director of Nursing.
Mrs. Hooker devoted her time in many areas as a volunteer including Union Elementary School, Shallotte Library, Museum of Coastal Carolina, Ocean Isle Beach Community Center, St. Brendans Catholic Church, and New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to one of these. She was also a member of the OIB Land Conservancy.
Surviving are her husband, of 67 years, Allen Hooker; two sons, Allen Hooker, Jr., and wife, Maureen, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina and John Hooker, and wife, Donna, of Palm City, Florida; two daughters, Mary Ellen Bonczek, and husband, Joseph, of Wilmington, and Susan Tallents, and husband, Dr. Brett Tallents, of Fulton, New York. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, in St. Brendan’s Catholic Church. Inurnment will be private in the St. Brendan’s Catholic Church Columbarium. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 16 at the funeral home.
