Evelyn Galloway Teague, of Wilmington, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove. She was 90.

Evelyn was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Supply, daughter of the late Willie and Eva Galloway. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Vernon Teague and her son-in-law, James Maynard Hudgens.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy T. Hudgens, of Tequesta, Florida; son, James Wayne Teague (Peggy), of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Catherine Von Phul, of Tequesta, Florida, Susan Hudgens-Moore (Dan Moore), of Jupiter, Florida, Ashley Teague (Ashley Faith), of Fuquay-Varina and Dale Teague (Brandy), of Wilmington; and six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Emma and Noah Hudgens-Moore and Oceana, Koral and Sawyer Teague.

Evelyn was the lone survivor of nine siblings. She was raised when times were very hard and money was scarce, but somehow they always made ends meet. She was a very hard worker all of her life and enjoyed cooking for her family. Her favorite pastimes were to be on the Crystal Pier fishing with her husband Vernon and going to church at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a lifelong member. Evelyn and Vernon loved to dance at the Shrine Club and the Blockade Runner.

She was the quintessential mother, always teaching her children to live life to the fullest and to celebrate every holiday.

Special thanks to the staff of New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove for their dedication and professional and compassionate care for the short time she was with them. Special thanks to Peggy Teague for her hard work and dedication to Evelyn since the passing of her husband four years ago.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with the Rev. Randy Wagner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Evelyn’s memory to Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, 409 S. Fifth Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Andrews Mortuary.
