Alton Ervin Rouse, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 88.
He was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Snow Hill, son of the late Pearson and Fannie Rouse.
Alton proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He retired after 37 years with Swift Independent Packing Company. He was a member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church. Alton was an avid fisherman for many years and enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Christine Parker Rouse; children, Michael E. Rouse and wife, Gail, of Wilmington, Robert A. Rouse and wife, Pam, of Wilmington and Carol R. Stovall and husband, Shawn, of Leland; grandchildren, Caroline Hite, Chrissy Hutto and Robbie Rouse; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Hite and Curtis Hutto; twin brother, Alvis Rouse, of Roanoke, Virginia; brother, Linwood Earl Rouse, of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Watson officiating with words from the Rev. Melvin Hall. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
