Samuel B. “Sam” Southern, 16, honor student at North Brunswick HS who enjoyed tutoring

Samuel B. “Sam” Southern, of Leland, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was 16.

Sam was born in New Hanover County on Dec. 13, 1997, and was the son of Ronald and Diane Davis Southern. He was a junior at North Brunswick High School. He has been on the “A-B” Honor Roll since kindergarten and enjoyed tutoring other students. He was a multi-sport athlete and enjoyed video games. He loved music.

He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Diane Southern; a sister, Lyndsay Clark, of Westminister, S.C.; maternal grandmother, Carolyn R. Davis, of Wilmington; aunts and uncles, Darryl Davis, of Wilmington, Donna Davis Pauly and husband, Pete, of Wilmington, Amy Smith and husband, Burton, of Leland and Fred Osborne, of South Florida; and many cousins and close friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Dr., Wilmington and other times from the residence of Amy and Burton Smith 9368 Merrywoods Dr., Leland. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel.
