Benjamin Robert Morrison, Jr., of Wilmington, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at the age of 84.
He was born May 12, 1930, in Wilmington, son of the late Dr. Benjamin Robert Morrison, Sr. and Winifred Shepard Morrison.
Benjamin co-owned and operated Shepard Chemical Works with his brother, Joseph Morrison. The business was started by their grandfather, Joseph Shepard. It was a family business for four generations. This business was his passion, in which he put his heart and soul until retirement.
His early years were spent training and showing horses. He was a member of Carolina Yacht Club in Wrightsville Beach where he enjoyed the water and sailing. He served active duty in the U.S. Navy and the Navy Reserves.
He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. His gentle demeanor and sweet spirit will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Poplin Morrison.
Survivors include his son, Thomas Robert Morrison and wife, Cynthia Kandes Morrison, of Wilmington; daughter, Winifred Morrison Bone and husband, Larry Bone, of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Amanda Shepard Morrison, of Charlotte, Timothy Christopher Neal and Andrew Morrison Neal, both of Augusta, Ga.; brother, Joseph Shepard Morrison, of Wilmington; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Poplin Stanfield, of Wilmington.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with Pastor Jason Doran officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
