Mary Ann Bordeaux King, 91, became a Biblical scholar

Mary Ann Bordeaux King died peacefully at home in Wilmington with her family by her side on Friday, June 6, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 91.

Mrs. King attended New Hanover High School where she met the love of her life, Bennie King. They were married July 13, 1941, setting up home in Wilmington.

The United Advent Christian Church was the center of her life and she was active in various women’s ministries. She completed two rigorous four-year courses of scripture study with the Women’s Fellowship becoming quite the Biblical scholar.

She was born in Goldsboro on March 17, 1923, to Milton and Dora Bordeaux, the youngest of 11 children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Mrs. King is survived by her husband of 72 years, Benjamin (Bennie) R. King, Sr.; sons, Robert (Bob) S. King and wife, Martha, of Wilmington and Benjamin (Bennie) R. King, Jr. and wife, Beth, of Roswell Ga.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at The United Advent Christian Church, 4912 S. College Road, Wilmington with family visitation one hour before the service. Interment will follow service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

Honorary pallbearers will be J. W. Burris, Bob Griffin, Tom Dees, Buddy Millinor, Dr. Horace Moore, Alton Wood and Ray Richardson. Active pallbearers will be Jay Wilcox, Gene Strickland, Charles Craft, Frank LeRay, Randy Cook and Rick Wingo.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to The United Advent Christian Church or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
