Mary Suchsland was often seen wearing a “Life is Good” T-shirt; everyone who knew her knows she lived a very good life.
Mrs. Suchsland, of Kure Beach, died peacefully Jan. 28, 2014, at the age of 85.
She was born in New Jersey to Myrtle and James Fitzpatrick and graduated from St. Michael’s School of Nursing, subsequently receiving her BSN from St. Joseph’s College of Maine. She served as a U.S. Navy nurse when she met Dean Suchsland, to whom she was married for 44 years. They built their home in Kure Beach to be able to enjoy her love for the sun, sand and water. She was an active volunteer in the community and at church. She enjoyed her water aerobics classes as well as her weekly game days.
She is survived by her eight children, Vicky Slomiany, Nancy Thomson (Ron), Michelle Karnes (Tim), Joyce Raquet (Kevin), Mark Suchsland (Denise), Paul Suchsland (Janet), David Suchsland (Beth) and Karen Suchsland; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, John Fitzpatrick; and sister Margie Beckley.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be sent to The Help Center of Federal Point, P.O. Box 54, Carolina Beach NC 28428. Thanks to the staff at Autumn Care for their loving care.
Please leave online condolences for the family at Andrews Mortuary.
