Robert Jackson Carter, affectionately known as “Jackie,” died on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Carter was born on Oct. 7, 1944, and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dexter and Elyse Horne Carter. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Pop Pop.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Deborah Atkinson Carter; sons, Keith Carter, Steve Carter and his wife, Anna and Bert Hatchell and his wife, Ashley; daughter, Julie Meek and her husband, Steve; brother, David Carter; sisters, Cathy Sellers and her husband, Jimmy and Lynn Padgett; niece, Andrea Padgett; and grandchildren, Drew, Steven, Sadie, Scout and Alex.
The family received friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, for a celebration of his life at the home of Deborah Carter.
