CAROLINA BEACH — The town council in Carolina Beach agreed to block off an area for one night this fall at the request of a popular island restaurant and bar to host two back-to-back Halloween events.
Allison Parker, the manager at The Dive at 6 N. Lake Park Blvd., went before council Tuesday night to ask for the event’s approval. Halloween in the Alley will take place Saturday, Oct. 31, along Raleigh Avenue near Lake Park Boulevard, next to The Dive Spirits and Food.
“We are trying to throw a big Halloween event this year, especially since Seawitch is closing,” she told council. “We see a need and we’re trying to fill that need.”
Two events will take place to celebrate the spooky holiday: a family-friendly one from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a party for adults from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Both will take place near the Shag mural created by Brian “JEKS” Lewis, installed by the Carolina Beach Mural Project — and the Halloween event setup will be similar to its unveiling, according to CB Community Services and Event Manager Tim Murphy.
Murphy said all details were hashed out by the event committee to ensure it meets ordinance.
There will be vendors, apple-bobbing, mini golf (The Dive also owns Putter Pub Mini Golf), music and more for kids and families earlier in the evening.
“Think pre-gaming trick-or-treating,” Parker said, noting there won’t be alcohol allowed on Raleigh Avenue during this timeframe. “But then we will flip it.”
At 7 p.m. the event becomes an adult Halloween party with two police officers at each entrance to the alleyway, providing security as alcohol will be sold and a live band will perform until 11 p.m. Then the party will go inside The Dive with a DJ until 2 a.m.
It passed unanimously by council.
