WILMINGTON — After working as Project Manager for the Young Women’s Association at a national level, Jhaniqua Palmer is returning to YWCA Lower Cape Fear to serve as Chief Executive Officer.
Palmer previously worked at YWCA Lower Cape Fear from 2019 to 2023. She started as the Program Coordinator for the Grandparent Support Network and Advocacy and Racial Justice before becoming the Director of Outreach.
During her time with YWCA Lower Cape Fear, Palmer led advocacy and racial justice programming, economic empowerment initiatives, financial literacy and job-skills training and community-based diversity, equity and inclusion education.
Her most recent position was with the YWCA USA as a Special Projects Manager where Palmer advanced initiatives surrounding governance, healthcare, crisis response, community assessment and global advocacy. Palmer led national delegations to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, coordinated the YWCA USA CEO Advisory Council and supported YWCA associations nationwide.
As Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Lower Cape Fear Palmer will guide the organization’s fundraising, operations, partnerships and overall direction.
“Her dedication to our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women is unparalleled,” YWCA Lower Cape Fear Board of Directors Chair Suzanne Wertman said in a statement.
Palmer has received several awards for her community involvement including Wilmington’s 40 Under 40 Award and the New Hanover County Equity Award for community excellence in nonprofits.
She officially began her new position as Chief Executive Officer on Monday, August 10.
“It is an honor to return to YWCA Lower Cape Fear and serve a community and mission that have shaped so much of my leadership journey,” Palmer said in a statement, adding that she looked forward to building an equitable future for women, girls, and families in the Cape Fear.
