WILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington will officially rename Greenfield Grind Skate Park in honor of late professional skateboarder and artist Alec Chambers during a dedication ceremony Friday, Aug. 21.
The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at the park, located at 302 Willard St.
Chambers, a longtime fixture in Wilmington’s skating and arts communities, began skating at Greenfield as a child and later became a mentor to younger skaters. He was killed by an impaired driver in December 2025.

The Wilmington City Council unanimously approved renaming the facility the Alec Chambers Skate Park of Wilmington earlier this year. The effort was supported by a petition signed by more than 6,800 people.
The city said the ceremony will celebrate Chambers’ life, his connection to Greenfield and his love of skateboarding.
